The days go by, and Maribor is starting to feel like a home that I'll miss. December began with a trip to Krško, a village about two hours from Maribor by train, where other volunteers are working on an audiovisual project. They welcomed us into their home, and we spent a few peaceful and beautiful days there, drawing, making films, and sharing time together. After those days, we started working more on our collaboration, as we'll be doing a performance together at the end of January. In the middle of all these thoughts, we helped the three artists in residence, whom we hosted in December. Each of them inspired me greatly. Connecting with the artists and spending time together excites me a lot, especially when we share similar visions of art and society.
Between gallery openings and helping the artists, we also continue working with the children and adults with migrant backgrounds. In fact, to say goodbye to the year, we all cooked together in the office. I had a lot of fun, and I felt very lucky to be learning so much with them. At the end of the month, we had a talk about the active role of migrants, and I was able to understand the realities around me with a more open mind. Also, along with other local volunteers, we made crafts about the Palestinian genocide to place around all the Christmas trees in the city as a form of social protest.
At the end of the month, I went to Spain and stayed at home for 11 days. It was a wonderful time reconnecting with my family and friends. But I must say that, when I returned to Maribor I felt again the enthusiasm to continue learning here.
