No more words, just feelings

It has been a few weeks since I said goodbye to Maribor and the life I had there. I feel deeply grateful for everything I experienced in its streets and spaces. I don't think I can even put it all into words, so this final blog will be wordless—or perhaps just a collection of words trying to find one another. Living ten months away from your native language, culture, family, friends, and routine is no small thing. Slovenia gave me the gift of quality time to discover parts of myself that had been hidden away within my comfort zone—connecting with new people and feeling a stranger or an unfamiliar place begin to transform into a home. I think that is why we chose this theme for our project: when you are away, you become more aware of how homes are built and how they shift from the unknown into a safe place.

I know I am going to miss Maribor a lot—in fact, I already do. But more than the city itself, I think I will miss the people I saw every day, our Monday meetings, petting Ziggy, laughing while trying to speak Slovenian, watching the snow or rain fall outside the window, the crows, and Ivana.

I am so happy and fulfilled to have spent this year of my life working on this project. I believe the Paula who is leaving is a little bit stronger, more self-assured, and calmer, with a fairer and more realistic view of the world.
