Searching for the human fish

Dear future volunteer,

this month, Gregor was searching for the human fish.

You know, that kind of fish with four legs. And when a fisherman first found one, everyone thought he was crazy. Those were the ones that some people used to believe were baby dragons.

But, actually, it is the biggest cave animal in the world. Without eyes and skin that looks just like a human's.

So, the search for the human fish took Gregor to Idrija. A small town in the west, famous for old fashioned needlework and the turquoise and crystal clear Idrijca River. Gregor realised that he missed spending time near fast mountain rivers, listening to their sound. It was a way for him to just disconnect from everyday life and be present in the moment.

Gregor continued to look for those moments of presence later in Maribor, too. He went to places he hadn't explored before. He sat and drank coffee in small cafes in neighborhoods he had never visited. He had some more time to focus on his drawing. And on Sundays, he would go to the flea market in Tezno.

To him, that market was something special. A place that seemed chaotic on the surface, but actually, it was full of life.

It was a place where you could find totally opposite and incompatible things all together - things that somehow, strangely, seemed to fit together.

He remembered going to similar markets with his friend, collecting things that others considered like trash and trying to make something out of them, giving them a new life.

And whenever he missed a little chaos and reality in his life, he would go to the market. Or when he missed home.
